REAR REAR
Walking backwards. Eyes front, path ahead slipping away. Quick glance down-left: cone coming up behind you. Step right. Never broke stride. No neck twist.

You've seen them. Walking backwards. Totally blind.

Backward walking blew up with the Knees Over Toes crowd. But take it onto a real path and it gets sketchy fast: twisting your neck every few steps, drifting into people, clipping a curb.

So most people keep it to a track or a treadmill, or skip it. Two things fix that: a plan for doing it right, and being able to see behind you. We're bringing both.

Why go retro?

What the research says about walking backwards.

Knees

Less stress on your kneecaps while your quads do the work. Studies have linked it to less pain and disability in people with knee osteoarthritis.

Balance

Research has shown gains in balance, walking speed and cardio fitness within a few weeks.

Brain

Moving in reverse makes your brain work harder on coordination and spatial awareness, and studies tie it to quicker reactions.

Burn

It takes more energy than walking forward at the same pace, so the same walk works you harder.

Not medical advice. Got a knee issue? Check with your doctor or PT before starting.

Coming to Kickstarter

Retro Reps glasses.
Just move your eyes.

Sport sunglasses with a rearview built in, aimed at the ground behind you instead of the road. A quick glance and you see your next step.

01
Tuned for walking, not riding

Cycling mirrors look far down the road. Ours point down and back at the ground a few steps behind you.

02
See both sides

Walkers drift. A view on each side means no blind spot on the side you didn't check.

03
Zero batteries

No app, no charging, nothing to break. Put them on and walk.

ON THE ROADMAP Camera Edition: a tiny rear camera with a live view in the corner of your lens. For walkers and cyclists. The list hears about it first.

How this started

A bike ride, a backward walker, and one big "why not?"

I was riding my bike around the Rose Bowl when I passed a woman walking backwards. Great workout. She had no idea where she was going. Cyclists use mirrors to see behind them, so why can't walkers? That's Retro Reps.

Quick questions

Is the plan really free?

Yes. Drop your email and we'll send Walk It Back to you. No purchase needed, now or later.

When does the Kickstarter launch?

We'll announce the date to the list first. Everyone on it gets an email the moment it goes live.

Do the glasses need charging?

No. Version 1 is fully optical: no batteries, no app. The Camera Edition comes later.

Is walking backwards safe?

Start slow on a flat, empty surface like a track. The plan walks you through it. If you have a knee or balance issue, check with your doctor or PT first.
